Zeolite‑Bamboo Concrete Strengthens and Sequesters CO2
Researchers have developed a new concrete mixture that simultaneously improves structural performance and sequesters carbon dioxide. By incorporating zeolite and bamboo biochar into the mix, the team produced a material that outperforms conventional concrete in both compressive and tensile strength.
Laboratory tests showed the enhanced concrete achieved a 7.48 % increase in compressive strength and a 15 % boost in tensile strength relative to standard formulations. In addition, the composite captured roughly 1.2 grams of CO₂ per day during testing, indicating its potential to contribute to carbon‑capture efforts in construction.
The findings suggest that this dual‑function material could be adopted in future building projects to meet both durability and sustainability goals, offering a promising avenue for reducing the environmental impact of the construction industry.
