Yemen displacement surges as fighting intensifies, raising humanitarian needs in Yemen and Djibouti

People displaced by the renewed fighting in Yemen have described fleeing for their lives amid shelling and gunfire, aid agencies reported on Friday. The latest wave of violence has forced thousands of civilians to abandon their homes in the north and south of the country, seeking temporary refuge in overcrowded camps and informal settlements. Humanitarian organisations said the intensity of the clashes has sharply heightened the demand for food, water, medical care and shelter, stretching already strained relief operations.

The surge in displacement has also amplified needs in neighboring Djibouti, where an estimated several thousand Yemenis have crossed the Gulf of Aden to escape the conflict. International partners noted that the influx is putting additional pressure on Djibouti’s limited resources, prompting calls for increased funding and coordination to support both the newly arrived refugees and the host communities. Agencies emphasized that sustained assistance will be essential to prevent a broader humanitarian crisis in the region.
