Waymo and Visa offer $2.85 discount on robotaxi rides for transit users

Waymo has announced a new partnership with Visa that will automatically reward riders for using the company’s robotaxis to connect with public transit in the San Francisco‑Bay Area. The Alphabet‑owned mobility service will give a $2.85 credit to a rider’s account whenever a Waymo trip and a transit ride are taken within two hours of each other, provided the trip is paid for with a Visa credit card.

The incentive is part of Waymo’s ongoing effort to make its autonomous vehicles a more attractive component of multimodal journeys. Previous attempts to offer transit discounts have been limited in scope or duration, but this collaboration with Visa is the first time the company has tied a financial reward to a specific payment method and a tight time window between rides. The credit is applied automatically, eliminating the need for riders to claim it manually, and the program will be rolled out initially only to the Bay Area before potentially expanding to other markets.
