UN report: US drug boat strikes could be crimes against humanity

A report released this week by the International Conflict Monitoring Agency concluded that a series of at least 68 attacks carried out over the past six months cannot be classified as acts of self‑defence. The analysis, which examined incident logs, witness testimonies and satellite imagery, found that the force used in each case exceeded the proportionality thresholds established under international humanitarian law and was directed primarily at civilian infrastructure rather than legitimate military targets.

The agency’s findings challenge the narrative presented by the attacking faction, which had previously asserted that the operations were retaliatory measures against perceived threats. By categorising the incidents as unlawful aggression, the report may prompt renewed diplomatic scrutiny and could influence forthcoming deliberations at the United Nations Security Council regarding potential sanctions or peace‑keeping interventions.
