UN AI panel urges stronger safeguards as agents advance

The International Association for Artificial Intelligence (IAAI), recognized as the world’s first scientific body devoted exclusively to AI research, issued a formal appeal on Monday urging regulators and industry leaders to revise existing AI safeguards. In a statement released to the press, the IAAI warned that the protective “firewalls” currently employed to contain advanced machine‑learning systems are beginning to “unravel,” exposing critical infrastructure and data to heightened risk.

The association called for a coordinated, multi‑jurisdictional framework that would incorporate real‑time monitoring, transparent auditing mechanisms and adaptive control protocols capable of evolving alongside rapid AI advancements. It emphasized that without such updates, the integrity of existing safety measures could be compromised, potentially leading to unintended consequences across sectors ranging from finance to healthcare.
