UK to provide air-to-air refuelling for Saudi jets

London – The United Kingdom said on Thursday that it will supply air‑to‑air refuelling capability to Saudi Arabia for “defensive” operations after receiving a formal request from the Gulf kingdom. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the support will involve tanker aircraft and associated personnel, and that it is intended to extend the range and endurance of Saudi air assets engaged in protecting its territory.

The decision comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows ongoing UK involvement in the Saudi‑led coalition that has been active in Yemen for years. British officials stressed that the assistance is strictly limited to defensive missions and does not constitute a broader escalation of arms sales. The move reinforces the existing security partnership between the two countries while signalling continued British backing for Saudi defensive capabilities.
