Turkish President says UN weakened and pledges to restore confidence

Turkey’s President R. Erdoğan warned that the United Nations is losing its effectiveness, noting that “those who have tied their hopes to the world body – from Palestine to Sudan – have been disappointed.” In his remarks, he highlighted the growing perception that the UN’s capacity to mediate conflicts and deliver humanitarian assistance is eroding, a sentiment echoed by numerous states and non‑governmental actors who have struggled to secure timely resolutions to protracted crises.

Erdoğan added that Turkey remains committed to “restoring confidence in the Organization” and will work with member states to strengthen its mechanisms, promote accountability, and ensure more decisive action in conflict zones. The Turkish government said it will support reforms aimed at improving the UN’s responsiveness and will increase its diplomatic engagement to help revive the institution’s credibility on the global stage.
