TAVR procedures for patients under 70 rose ninefold in one health system
New research published in the Journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions and presented at TCT 2026 indicates a significant shift in heart valve replacement procedures for younger patients. The study found that the annual number of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures among patients under 70 increased nearly ninefold within one health system, rising from 15 in 2014 to 134 in 2024.
Despite this growth in TAVR usage, surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) remained the predominant approach across all age groups studied. The findings highlight a trend toward less invasive interventions for younger demographics while maintaining the dominance of surgical methods overall.
