Stroke Promotes Glioma Growth, Study Finds

Researchers at the Texas Children's Duncan Neurological Research Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, and collaborating institutions have reported in Nature Cancer that stroke promotes glioma growth. The study details how stroke may alter brain cells in ways that facilitate the development of these tumors, effectively linking brain injury to malignant brain tumors.

The investigators also identified the specific cellular and molecular mediators involved in this process. These findings provide insight into the mechanisms by which a stroke can influence the growth of gliomas.
