In the fourth over, Australia’s Jasprit Hazlewood claimed the wicket of Tony de Zorzi, and a near‑lbw call against Temba Bavuma was dismissed after a review showed the ball struck Bavuma on the back pad, hit him dead in front of the stumps but was still bouncing over.

Hazlewood’s breakthrough came after the South Africa left‑hander had struggled to get away from the bowler earlier. When he finally found a hint of room, Hazlewood opened up, drifting a touch wider of the off‑stump. De Zorzi drove hard but could only edge the ball to Matt Renshaw at first slip. The South Africa skipper was given the benefit of the doubt after defending a straight one.
