Sony and UMG are suing Suno again

Sony and Universal Music Group have filed a new lawsuit against Suno, alleging that the company’s latest v6 model continues to infringe on their copyrights. The labels argue that the new model is trained on user outputs from previous iterations, which were originally built using unlicensed music sourced from YouTube and other platforms. Sony and UMG are notable holdouts in this dispute, as they did not sign a licensing agreement with Suno.

In a complaint shared with The Verge, the plaintiffs accuse Suno of engaging in "model laundering," asserting that training a new model on the outputs of an infringing model does not eliminate copyright infringement but rather passes the value of the plaintiffs' expression from the copied recordings.
