RHS Railway Stations in Bloom award shortlist announced

Five gardening teams have been shortlisted for the Royal Horticultural Society’s inaugural Railway Stations in Bloom award, marking the first time the prestigious body will recognize horticultural excellence at transport hubs. The shortlist, released exclusively today, includes volunteer groups from stations in England, Scotland and Wales that have transformed platform areas with hanging baskets, seasonal borders and native planting schemes designed to enhance passenger experience and promote biodiversity.

The new award builds on the RHS’s long‑standing Britain in Bloom competition, which has encouraged more than 1,600 towns and villages to beautify public spaces since its inception in 1964. By extending the initiative to railway stations, the society aims to encourage community involvement in the upkeep of high‑traffic environments and to showcase the role of horticulture in urban regeneration. Winners will be announced later this year, with the successful team receiving national recognition and a trophy presented at a ceremony hosted by the RHS.
