Restoring brain protein Menin reverses aging signs in mice
Scientists have identified a decline in the brain protein Menin as a potential driver of aging, according to a recent study that examined the effects of reduced Menin levels in mice. The research found that mice with lower Menin exhibited heightened inflammation, impaired cognition, weakened bone density, and thinner skin—hallmarks commonly associated with advanced age. When Menin levels were restored, several of these age‑related changes were partially reversed, suggesting that the protein plays a protective role in maintaining tissue health.
In parallel experiments, the amino acid D‑serine was shown to improve cognitive performance in the same animal model, indicating that modulation of Menin pathways may enhance brain function. The findings point to Menin as a promising target for interventions aimed at promoting healthy aging, though further investigation is needed to determine whether similar mechanisms operate in humans.
