Research proves non-Abelian anyons enable universal quantum computing
Researchers have demonstrated that non-Abelian anyons, a type of exotic quantum particle, are capable of executing the complete set of operations required for universal quantum computing. This achievement was realized by utilizing 54 qubits on Quantinuum’s H2 processor, where the team integrated braiding and fusion techniques to access computational capabilities that were previously unattainable through braiding alone.
This development marks a significant milestone by proving that these particles can support the full operational range necessary for universal quantum computing. The combination of braiding and fusion on the H2 processor successfully unlocked these advanced capabilities, confirming the potential of non-Abelian anyons in this field.
