Regulator investigates Pornhub's age verification process

The UK Gambling Commission has flagged concerns about a betting platform’s reliance on third‑party verification checks supplied by Apple for a segment of its user base. In a statement released Tuesday, the regulator said the arrangement raises questions about the adequacy of identity and age‑verification processes, which are required under the Gambling Act to prevent under‑age gambling and ensure responsible play.

The commission noted that while Apple’s verification service can confirm certain user details, it does not cover the full range of checks mandated for gambling operators, such as ongoing monitoring of gambling‑related harm. As a result, the regulator has asked the site to provide a detailed remediation plan and to demonstrate how it will meet all statutory obligations without depending solely on Apple’s checks. The Commission indicated that compliance will be reviewed in the coming weeks, and failure to address the issues could lead to enforcement action.
