Radius Relaunches as Meetup.com Alternative

A developer has announced the relaunch of Radius, a Ruby on Rails‑based platform originally introduced on Hacker News as a “Show HN” project. The service was created to help users discover and join local communities, groups, and events, and the new version focuses on streamlining that process. After receiving more than 150 comments on the initial post—providing a wealth of feedback and feature requests—the author has incorporated many of those suggestions and added a new “Activities” feature that allows individuals to post lightweight events, such as a coffee meetup or a cycling outing, and let others vote on convenient times.

The updated platform narrows its scope from a broad event aggregator to a more targeted tool for connecting people within specific communities. Activities are independent of formal groups, enabling spontaneous gatherings that can be scheduled by participants. The author notes plans for future enhancements, including open‑source contributions and federation, though those are slated for later development. With the relaunch, Radius aims to provide a more polished user experience and a clearer focus on facilitating local social interactions.
