Qatar works to revive Iran-US talks

Doha – Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson told Bloomberg on Thursday that diplomatic envoys are actively shuttling between Tehran and Washington in an effort to restart stalled negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program. The spokesperson said the mediators, operating under the auspices of Qatar, are seeking to bridge gaps that have emerged since the United States withdrew from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and Iran subsequently reduced its compliance with the accord. The renewed shuttle diplomacy follows a series of indirect contacts earlier this year, which failed to produce a concrete framework, prompting both sides to look to a neutral third party to facilitate dialogue.

According to the ministry, the mediators are exchanging proposals on verification mechanisms, sanctions relief, and the sequencing of steps required for a potential reinstatement of the nuclear deal. While no official timetable has been set, the spokesperson indicated that the talks are “intensifying” and that Qatar remains committed to providing a venue for any future agreements. The ongoing diplomatic effort underscores the international community’s interest in preventing further escalation in the region, though officials cautioned that a final settlement remains uncertain and will depend on the willingness of both Tehran and Washington to make substantive concessions.
