Qatar Emir links Gulf crisis to lack of regional security system

Doha – The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, warned on Tuesday that the unfolding crisis in the Gulf region should not come as a surprise. He attributed the situation to a “cumulative result of years of delay, crisis management through temporary fixes, and unrealistic policies,” suggesting that longstanding structural weaknesses have now manifested in a broader regional instability.

The Qatari leader’s remarks come amid heightened diplomatic and economic tensions among Gulf Cooperation Council members, which have been marked by intermittent disputes over trade, energy supplies and security arrangements. By highlighting the role of delayed reforms and short‑term solutions, Sheikh Tamim signaled that without comprehensive policy adjustments, the region may face further disruptions. The statement underscores Qatar’s call for more sustainable, coordinated approaches to address the underlying challenges confronting the Gulf.
