Qantas Begins Ticket Sales for First New York‑Sydney Nonstop Flight

Qantas has announced that it will begin selling tickets for its inaugural nonstop flight between New York (JFK) and Sydney (SYD), marking the airline’s first direct trans‑pacific service. The new route will use the Airbus A350‑1000, which can accommodate 280 passengers and offers a flight time of approximately 20 hours and 45 minutes. Ticket sales are set to start in early October, with the first departure scheduled for early 2025.

The decision follows the airline’s recent expansion of its long‑haul network, which now includes nonstop flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Honolulu. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said the New York‑Sydney service will provide a new “high‑value” option for business and leisure travelers, while also strengthening the airline’s position in the competitive trans‑pacific market. The company has secured the necessary regulatory approvals and is working with airport authorities to secure gate and slot allocations at both hubs.
