Prem Rugby clubs' debt climbs to £366m amid rising losses and wages
The third edition of the Leonard Curtis Rugby Finance Report, published on Tuesday, reveals that the financial position of the 10 Premiership Rugby clubs deteriorated during the 2024-25 season. Despite growing interest from global entities like Red Bull, Sir James Dyson, and the Black Knight group, collective losses increased from £34m to £36.5m. Simultaneously, combined debt levels rose from £342.5m to £366.1m, and total wage bills grew from £125.9m to £129.8m, representing 80% of revenues.
The report identifies six clubs as balance-sheet insolvent and urges spending restraint. This financial strain persists despite recent investments from major corporate and private interests, highlighting a widening gap between rising costs and falling revenues within the top flight.
