Pentagon seeks $30 million for AI lie detector program

The Pentagon has requested $30.3 million in the upcoming defense budget to develop an advanced lie‑detection system. The program, known as “Polygraph+” or “Polygraph Next,” is aimed at improving the accuracy of polygraph technology over the next five years.

According to the Department of Defense budget request, the new system will center on scoring algorithms that employ artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as a technique called “standoff sensing.” These components are intended to enhance the reliability and effectiveness of lie‑detection procedures.

The Pentagon’s budget proposal calls for $30.3 million over five years to build an AI‑powered lie detector, with the program named Polygraph+ or Polygraph Next.
