NASA FarmFlux Mission to Conduct Low-Altitude Research Flights Over Colorado

The FarmFlux mission, jointly led by NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and Colorado, will conduct low-altitude research flights over the state to study agricultural emissions. This initiative addresses a significant but understudied component of Earth’s land and atmosphere systems by deploying more than a dozen sensors to monitor the interaction between pollutants and the atmosphere.

The sensors are designed to measure specific airborne substances, including ozone, methane, ammonia, and particulates, as they rise from agricultural lands and animal farms. The mission focuses on quantifying these emissions to better understand their role within the broader environmental systems. This collaborative effort between NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and Colorado aims to gather data on the atmospheric interactions stemming from agricultural activities.
