Michigan credit union CEO Jane Smith removed after posting AI‑generated “Lake America” sweater image

Jane Smith, the chief executive of Family First Credit Union in Michigan, is no longer employed by the organization after she posted on social media an image that appeared to be AI‑generated. The picture showed Smith and her family wearing sweaters bearing the words “Lake America,” a phrase associated with former President Donald Trump. According to the credit union’s statement, the image was created using ChatGPT to edit a photo and to display a name that Trump ordered U.S. agencies to use for Lake Ontario amid a trade dispute with Canada.

Family First Credit Union announced the termination of Smith’s role as CEO and issued an apology for “the concern, disappointment and pain this situation has caused.” The statement confirmed that Jane Smith will no longer serve as the credit union’s chief executive.
