Meta to End Quest 2 OS Updates in 2027
Meta has announced that it will release the final operating system update for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro virtual reality headsets by March 2027. This concluding update, designated as version 213, marks the end of major software support for these devices. Following this milestone, the company stated it will continue to provide security patches and critical bug fixes until the end of 2027. Additionally, developers will be able to submit applications compatible with the Quest 2 and Quest Pro through December 2027.
The announcement positions the Quest 3 and 3S as the new baseline for Meta’s VR gaming ecosystem. Meta is making this transition in anticipation of its upcoming VR Glasses, which are scheduled to launch in the spring of 2027. The company noted that the Quest 2 and Quest Pro have laid the foundation for its current hardware lineup.
