Meta's Muse app collects user data and requests personal details

Meta’s Muse app has drawn attention for its data‑collection practices, which align with the company’s broader approach of enrolling users into AI‑training datasets by default. Upon installation, the app automatically opts users into sharing a range of personal information, including usage patterns and device identifiers, for the purpose of improving Meta’s artificial intelligence models.

In addition to standard telemetry, Muse prompts users to voluntarily provide more sensitive data such as bank account numbers, email addresses and passport details. The prompts appear as in‑app nudges encouraging users to upload or confirm this information, raising concerns among privacy advocates and regulators about the adequacy of consent mechanisms and the potential for misuse of highly personal data. Meta has not yet issued a public statement clarifying the scope of data collection or the security measures applied to the submitted financial and identification documents.
