Magnet-producing bacteria boost C. elegans lifespan by over 43%

Scientists introduced a magnet-producing bacterium to C. Elegans worms, observing an increase in average lifespan of more than 43 percent.

The bacterium also helped protect the worms’ neurological and intestinal health, effects that researchers linked primarily to the suppression of ferroptosis, a damaging form of cell death associated with iron buildup and oxidative stress. The study demonstrated that the magnet-producing bacterium extended worm lifespan by over 43 percent and reduced ferroptosis.
