Joby Aviation Completes 3,100-Mile Autonomous Flight Across U.S.

Joby Aviation announced that one of its autonomous aircraft completed a trans‑United States flight without any human pilot ever taking control. The flight, which covered more than 1,200 miles from the West Coast to the East Coast, demonstrated the company’s full‑autonomy system that manages navigation, obstacle avoidance, and flight operations in real time.

The aircraft, a lightweight electric vertical‑take‑off and landing (eVTOL) model, was monitored remotely by Joby’s flight‑operations team but never required manual intervention. The successful cross‑country run was part of a broader effort to validate the company’s technology for future commercial air taxi services, and it follows a series of regulatory approvals that have allowed the aircraft to operate within U.S. airspace. Joby’s CEO noted that the mission confirms the reliability of the autonomous platform and supports the company’s roadmap to launch passenger services in the coming years.
