Iran raises fuel prices and urges reduced consumption

A new fuel pricing scheme announced by the Ministry of Energy will apply a higher tariff to motorists who exceed a monthly consumption of 110 litres. The policy, which takes effect from the first of next month, is intended to curb excessive fuel use and encourage more efficient driving habits across the kingdom.

Under the revised rates, fuel purchased beyond the 110‑litre threshold will be priced at 100,000 riyals per litre, effectively doubling the cost compared with the current standard price. Authorities indicated that the steep increase is designed to deter unnecessary consumption and align with broader environmental and fiscal objectives, while revenue generated will be directed toward public transportation improvements.
