Gordon Parks exhibition marks 20th anniversary of his foundation

The Jack Shainman Gallery in New York will open “Gordon Parks: Voices in the Mirror” this week, marking the 20th anniversary of the Gordon Parks Foundation. The exhibition, named after Parks’s 1990 memoir, brings together a selection of his most powerful photographs and highlights the breadth of his influence as a photographer, poet, composer, director and mentor. Organized in partnership with the foundation’s co‑founder, former Life magazine editor Philip B. Kunhardt Jr., the show aims to underscore the foundation’s ongoing mission to support artistic and educational projects that reflect Parks’s vision.

Born in Fort Scott, Kansas, Gordon Parks used his camera to illuminate the lives and humanity of people across America and abroad, establishing a legacy that spans multiple creative disciplines. Since its inception in 2006, the Gordon Parks Foundation has funded scholarships, exhibitions and community programs that preserve and extend his work. “Voices in the Mirror” offers visitors a chance to engage directly with the images that defined a career and to hear from those who knew him, reinforcing Parks’s enduring impact on contemporary visual culture.
