Gavin Newsom condemns Democrats’ ‘climate hushing’, predicts Trump’s downfall and expects AOC to run in 2028

California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Democratic politicians for avoiding discussions on climate change, a practice he termed “climate hushing,” arguing that the issue is often ignored because candidates lack the skills to connect environmental shocks to everyday “kitchen table” concerns. Speaking during an interview with the Guardian and Covering Climate Now on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and New York Climate Week, Newsom emphasized the necessity for the party to articulate the direct impact of climate change on voters.

The governor also forecast that the upcoming November midterm elections would mark “the end of Donald Trump’s presidency as we know it,” urging voters to turn out in such overwhelming numbers that any attempt by Trump to contest the results would be impossible. Newsom stated that if the US president declares a national emergency or attempts to invalidate the outcome, the courts must intervene and Congress must stand up for the rule of law to ensure the democratic process is upheld.
