Cedars-Sinai researchers identify enzyme to prevent liver disease progression

A preclinical study co-led by investigators from Cedars-Sinai Health Sciences University has identified an enzyme that helps prevent the most common form of liver disease from progressing toward liver failure. The findings, published in Nature Metabolism, suggest that restoring the enzyme involved in cellular cleanup could reduce inflammation and scarring associated with metabolic dysfunction–associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

The research indicates that this specific enzyme plays a critical role in halting the advancement of liver disease. By targeting this mechanism, the study results could point the way to new approaches for preventing serious organ damage.
