Balendra Shah Urges Global Support After Nepal Floods

Prime Minister Balendra Shah told the United Nations that last month’s catastrophic floods were a “warning to the world” of growing climate risks in the Himalayas. He said the flooding had highlighted the urgent need for global attention to the region’s climate challenges.

Shah explained that warming temperatures were melting glaciers and permafrost, contributing to the severity of the floods. He urged international support to help Nepal adapt to threats it could not face alone.

The floods, he said, were catastrophic and served as a warning to the world.
