Apple clarifies texture and grain controls limited to latest iPhone models

Apple’s latest camera updates, unveiled with the iPhone 18 and 18 Pro, include new texture‑adjustment and film‑grain controls that let users smooth skin or add vintage‑style grain to photos. The company’s press release stated that the features would be “available” on older models that “support the latest generation of Photographic Styles,” which initially suggested that iPhone 16 and iPhone Air users could access the full suite of adjustments.

In practice, the wording was misleading. The texture and grain options are only enabled on devices that meet stricter hardware requirements; older iPhones that support Photographic Styles but lack the necessary processing power will see a reduced set of controls. As a result, users of the iPhone 16 and iPhone Air can still apply basic style presets but cannot tweak texture or add grain to the same degree as on newer models.

Apple’s clarification underscores the company’s ongoing effort to balance feature rollout with device capabilities.
