Africa bids for UN Security Council seat

Africa’s bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council has drawn attention as the continent’s representation at the UN remains limited to non‑permanent membership. Despite the presence of 54 African member states, none hold a permanent seat on the powerful Security Council.

The continent’s collective voice in the organization is therefore confined to rotating, short‑term positions that do not carry the same influence as the permanent members.
