The 2026 reboot of the pioneering black sitcom A Different World marks the latest entry in the trend of remaking classic television content for streaming audiences. The original series, which aired from 1987 to 1993 as a spinoff of The Cosby Show, was set at a historically black college and addressed topics such as HIV/Aids and date rape. The new production features a returning cast that includes Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Darryl M Bell, and Cree Summer, along with a brief cameo by Jada Pinkett Smith.

The plot follows Deborah, played by Maleah Joi Moon, who is attending the same alma mater as her parents, Dwayne and Whitley. The narrative picks up after the original series ended with Dwayne and a pregnant Whitley preparing to move to Tokyo. This new version continues the legacy of the predecessor while adapting the story for a contemporary audience, maintaining its focus on life at a black college campus through a comedic lens.
